The 6th Annual Cherry-Roubaix bicycle race announced today the cancellation of 2013 Cherry-Roubaix Charity Ride. The Charity Ride was scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 to benefit Munson Healthcare Women’s Cancer Fund.
The cancellation of the Charity Ride reflects the interest of Cherry-Roubaix race directors and sponsors to select another future date to better serve fund raising efforts to support Munson Healthcare Women’s Cancer Fund.
“The challenge of creating awareness and raising funds is not unique to the Cherry-Roubaix Charity Ride,” said Tim Barrons, media director, Cherry-Roubaix. “The decrease in our Charity Ride sponsorships will affect key areas of the ride, to include our ability to best contribute to Munson Healthcare Women’s Cancer Fund. We respect and admire our past and current supporters of Cherry-Roubaix Charity Ride, and we understand that pausing this year’s Charity Ride is in best interests of giving abilities in order to prioritize efforts for a more successful event in the future. Although the 2013 Charity Ride is canceled, it is not removed from our sights as an important aspect of Cherry-Roubaix community support. We expect Cherry-Roubaix Charity Ride to return to our community in the next year, and this information will be shared on http://www.cherry-roubaix.com as soon as it is available.”
Bob McLain, Race Director, Cherry-Roubaix added, “I want to personally thank Ruth Bloomer of Munson Healthcare Foundation and the city of Traverse City as well as Old Mission Peninsula for their support. We appreciate their willingness to advocate and participate in the event as well as their understanding of our difficult decision to pause this event in 2013.”
